Philips 2200 vs 3200

The Philips 2200 and the Philips 3200 are two of the most popular espresso machines. Both of them are made by Philips. Both of them can make a cracking espresso. But, which one is the right one for you? Let’s take a look.

Philips 2200 Review

Let’s start with the cheaper of the two models.

The Philips 2200 allows you to make the following coffees at the touch of a button:

  • Coffee
  • Espresso

You can also produce hot water, which is ideal because you won’t have to have a kettle kicking around your home to make teas, etc.

All it takes is a single button press to produce any of these coffees. Although, you can fine-tune the coffee by tinkering about with the three strength and three temperature settings.

Attached to the machine is a quality milk frother, which can come in handy when you are looking to put together epic drinks such as a latte.

Loaded into the Philips 2200, there is a coffee bean grinder. The ceramic grinding stones are good for 20,000 cups of coffee.

There is a 12-step grinder adjustment. This means that you can get the right coarseness of the beans.

An aroma seal is located on the coffee bean holder. It helps to keep that aroma locked in, which means your inground beans last longer.

Intuitive touch display:

Philips 2200 Touch Display Menu
The intuitive touch display on the Philips 2200, makes selecting your coffee easy and convenient.

What we like:

  • Quality milk frother
  • Easy selection of your coffee with intuitive touch display, makes espresso, hot water, and coffee
  • 12 step coffee bean grinder adjustment from fine to coarse
  • 20,000 cups of finest coffee with durable ceramic grinders
  • Keep your beans fresh longer thanks to the aroma seal
  • Up to 5,000 cups without descaling, thanks to AquaClean filter
  • Removable brew group for easy cleaning
  • Automatic descaling

We don’t like:

  • Low variety of coffee options

Philips 3200 Review

Most of the features that you can find in the Philips 2200 can also be found in the Philips 3300. This means:

  • Milk frother
  • Automatic coffee maker
  • Coffee grinder (exactly the same system is used)
  • Automatic descaler
  • 12-step grinder adjustment

Although, as you are about to see shortly, the Philips 3200 is still a far superior product. This is because it gives you more coffee-making options. This means:

  • Espresso
  • Coffee
  • Americano
  • Cappuccino
  • Latte Macchiato
  • Hot water

3200 touch display:

The intuitive touch display on the Philips 3200 & the 5 Coffee variety options.

All of those can be made with the press of a button. Of course, you can adjust the strength (three settings) and temperature (also three settings) to make the perfect coffee for you. However, a single button press means that you get the perfect coffee each and every time.

In our opinion, a good coffee machine is one where you have a lot of options for making coffee, and the Philips 3200 certainly delivers on that front. Of course, because it can make espresso, you can get even more creative with your coffee options too.

Pair the espresso with milk and some chocolate, and you can make a very good mocha.

This is easily one of the best coffee machines on the market right now.

What we like:

  • Same Features as 2200 plus:
  • Makes coffee quickly
  • Lots of coffee variety
  • Quality milk frother
  • Fantastic coffee bean grinder

We don’t like:

  • More expensive than 2200
  • Noisy.

The Differences Between the Philips 2200 and 3200

Perhaps the main reason it is harder to choose between the Philips 2200 and the 3200 is that they are roughly similar machines.

Philips doesn’t really cut corners when it comes to design. This means that the features you find on one machine will appear on the other…albeit slightly better. For example, both machines boast the following:

  • Responsive touch interface
  • Milk frother
  • Coffee bean grinder
  • Philips’ AquaClean system
  • Automatic descaler

This means that you could feasibly buy either of them, and you will end up with a cracking machine. However, since you are looking at this Philips 2200 vs. 3200 comparisons, let’s look at the minor variations.

Price

If price is your biggest concern, then the Philips 2200 will win out. It comes in at a good $100 cheaper than the 3200. Although it does need to make a few sacrifices to meet this price point, e.g., you have fewer options for making coffee, and the design of the machine isn’t as great.

Coffee Varieties

This is where your main difference is going to be. At the push of a button, the Philips 2200 can make the following:

  • Espresso
  • Coffee
  • Hot water

On the other hand, the Philips 3200 can makes 5 coffee varieties:

  • Espresso
  • Coffee
  • Americano
  • Cappuccino
  • Latte Macchiato
  • Hot water

We don’t know about you, but we really do love our coffee. This means that the more coffee-making options we have available, the better. Who doesn’t want to make a cappuccino with the minimum amount of fuss?

Honestly, the extra coffee-making functionality results in the Philips 3200 make it by far a superior machine, even for a price that is (in the grand scheme of things) only marginally higher.

Milk Frother

Both of the espresso machines have a milk frother. To be honest, both of the milk frothers are great. However, many people report that the milk frother found on the 3200 is marginally better. It is probably not going to be all that noticeable for most people.

However, the milk frother on the 3200 does allow you to squeak a little bit of extra flavor out of your coffee. The whole reason you are looking to purchase a quality coffee machine like this is for flavor, so why wouldn’t you want a little boost?

Design

Looking head-on, there isn’t a massive difference between the design of the two models. The 3200 has a few extra buttons to accommodate the additional coffee varieties that it can make, but nothing too crazy.

The Philips 3200 is a couple of pounds heavier than the Philips 2200, but unless you are constantly ferrying the coffee machine around your kitchen, we doubt this will matter too much.

Where the design does differ is in the materials that are used. Both of them (mostly) use ABS plastic for their body. However, the 3200 uses a few stainless steel bits and pieces. It gives it a much more luxurious look and, in our opinion, a more durable build.

Philips 2200 v 3200: Which One Is Right For You?

There isn’t a world of difference between the Philips 2200 and the 3200. Both of them are solid coffee machines. However, if we had to recommend one, it would be the Philips 3200.

This is all due to the extra coffee varieties that it can produce. Although don’t get us wrong, the 2200 is still a great model. We just reckon it is worth spending that extra bit of cash to get a much more versatile machine.

Let’s just jump right into it and look at all the features. Overall, the Philips 2200 is an excellent compact machine. I like that about the new devices that came out with black plastic. I don’t even think it’s a bad-looking black plastic.

I really can’t emphasize enough that you’re getting an excellent machine with a lot of nice features for not a big budget. I mean, you’re going to get something good for not a lot of money, so check it out and let us know what you think.

Differentiating Factors: Philips 2200 vs 3200

Design:

The deciding factor in this comparison will come down to your personal preference, but no matter what you choose there are some key features both coffee makers have that should be noted:

Functionality and design/convenience for each appliance’s respective features set;

Additional buttons on the front panel of the Philips 32000 Series model compared with the lower-cost 2000 series counterpart (2 more hot water tank positions);

Compact size versus bulkier build within an otherwise lightweight package through the use of lighter weight materials such as aluminum rather than steel construction components used throughout most

Storage Capacity:

The battle between the Philips 2200 and 3200 continues as they both have a 60 oz water reservoir, but there is one difference. The 3200 model has two separate containers; 0.6 lbs for coffee beans incapacity (or 14 cups) to allow an automatic espresso machine without pre-infusion or steaming functions!

Features:

The Philips 2200 uses a steam wand to create fantastic milk froth for some of the best cappuccinos around.

This machine offers different specialty flavors, such as espresso and regular coffee brews; there are hot water or steam options to help you make whatever kind suits your taste best! You can also adjust how much strength in aroma/flavor comes out per drink (3 settings) And whether it’s finer or coarser grind level is adjustable too – 12 levels

Whereas Philips 3200 automatic machine makes it easy, you don’t need any tools or knowledge about coffee machines to get started immediately!

It also offers advanced features like adjustable quantity settings on top of what was available with its predecessor which is why we think this model will be just as popular among owners looking forward to improving their home barista experience.

These factors make the Philips 3200 superior to its counterpart, namely; more specialty coffees and adjustable milk foam quantity.

Affordability:

Affordability is the last factor that would surely let you decide between two or more products. When we talk about price range, there isn’t any significant difference, so it’s your choice which one suits what fits best and is made for each other!

Conclusion:

All in all, the Philips 3200 is a superior performer. It has more features and options for varying your espresso needs which suit most people’s taste better than what you get with its older sibling -the 2200 model.

So, Have you decided yet or not after reading this “Philips 2200 vs 3200” article?

In a nutshell: If you want to buy a Coffee Machine with heavy-duty features like different coffee varieties and brew styles and types, then the Philips 3200 is the best option.

But If you’re not much obsessed with features of coffee machines like beverage types, then you may go for Philips 2200
